Frequently asked Questions

What can I expect at a pelvic floor visit?
Every appointment will be 100% one on one with your therapist. Each visit will be about 45-60 minutes. Each session will include a combination of assessment, manual therapy, exercise and education on how to carry over what you learn in the clinic to home.

Who needs pelvic floor PT?
People who suffer from urinary incontinence, urinary urgency, urinary frequency, constipation, fecal / gas incontinence, low back and pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, and prenatal / postpartum care.

Do I need a referral from my Physician?
No. New Jersey is a direct-access state for physical therapy. This means that you do not need a referral to get started with pelvic floor therapy.

Do you accept insurance?
3 Dimensional Physical Therapy, Pelvic Health is an out of network practice. By being out of network with insurance companies, we are not limited by the insurance company and we are able to provide superior, one-on-one care. Being in-network with insurance limits us in what services we can provide and limits the amount of time you can spend with your patients. We work for you, not the insurance company!

We will provide you with a Super Bill after each visit that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out of network reimbursement or to be applied towards your deductible.

Do you take Medicare?
We are participating with Medicare providers.

Is an internal examination required?
While the internal examination/manual therapy can tell us a lot about your pelvic floor, we have the knowledge and other tools that we can use to help if internal work is not a good option for you.

What does the internal pelvic floor work involve?
After explanation and getting your consent, the examination/treatment can be completed either vaginally or rectally. The goal of the internal examination is to examine muscle strength, tension, coordination of the tissue, and any asymmetries.

What do I wear to my therapy appointment?
Wear something that is comfortable to move around/exercise in.

Can I come to my therapy appointment if I am on my period?
Yes. There are many effective things that we can still do during your pelvic floor session that does not involve an internal examination. Your therapist is professional and comfortable with performing the internal examination while you are on your menstrual cycle.
